Title: Bumps
Post by: BlueSky on August 28, 2012, 04:39:50 PM

I agree they are a nightmare. Try not to straddle them, instead putting one tyre right over them and alternate sometimes where safe.

That seems very extreme though, what sort of car and where did you take it?

without being rude I'm not sure how to reply to such a bizarre response.

I've empathised with you and agreed with you that they are a pain, advised you how to avoid this happen again, and asked what your vehicle is and where you took it for that frankly ludicrous sum.

You have either been ripped off, are driving an extremely high end car in which case I could have helped you avoid future costs, or you are travelling too quickly over the speedbumps causing excessive damage.. or, you're exaggerating or just making it up.

Actually I think it was a great answer that was provided to you ... and it just might save you £5k next time! Speed bumps are awful but shouldn't require a new suspension. Unless you drive like a loon over them the worst they should do is cost you tracking/wheel alignment...

But BlueSky I am a bit perplexed by this thread - we have covered this topic and it was established that the speed bumps are here to stay unless someone can come up with an alternative...

In case you don't recall an earlier discussion on this -  you actually suggested a solution here:

If you think the speed bumps damage your car - what do you think driving into a tree or bollard would do?

Not a great answer.

Living on Station Road I like the fact that speed humps remind car drivers that they are driving through a residential area.  I would feel happier though, if the humps were actually able to  slow down stupid irresponsible fast drivers and not just sensible slower drivers, who would drive carefully whether there were humps or not.  In this respect, they seem a bit redundant.

Recognise the photo in this article?

It wasn't me sent it in - honest! - but I do get the point.

LOL.  Nor I.  But it's at the same point where I took this one a couple of years ago:

I think that was in the das of Carillion.  Now we have May Gurney.  Plus ca change...

Doesn't Honest John live near here?  Claygate??

I'll happily fill one in - it would be good to reduce the number of bumps and also find some alternative for traffic calming.

I think we'd all have more luck if we filled the bumps in rather than filled in the survey!

If we can rid of the bumps, can we have ramps throughout ?

The bumps make me sea-sick!

I always find it odd that most of the speeders are mums and dads on school runs!
