Left for more than one season to establish themselves, substantial plants can grow. This buddleia will reach a height and spread of twelve feet or more, serving as an attractant to butterflies and eventually smothering the bollard on the Fountain Roundabout, while its roots erode and soften the kerb and paviours, creating a charming mediaeval scene of poverty and neglect. Following publicity, the weeds here were cleared by a three-man crew that worked on the morning of Friday 17 August and disappeared at lunchtime
