Thanks to those who answered the call in our last issue to help save Marney’s Pond. Thirty two volunteers, now known as the Marney’s Pond Squad, have been busy clearing out waist high docks, sedges and rushes from the pond bed and are now clearing the drainage ditches on Ditton Common, that provide surface water run-off to feed the pond.
The next step in saving the pond is to secure funding to install a monitoring bore hole to test the water table over the next two or three years and develop a long term management plan that is acceptable to the Council.
If you would like to join the pond squad working parties or can offer any technical advice, contact Gill Coates at gcoates@residents-association.com or 07908 922263.
