Title: A proposal for Elmbridge to be part of London
Post by: mark.hawkins on August 20, 2014, 08:26:28 PM
An article on the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-28865196 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-28865196) is reporting a proposal for all communities within the M25 to become part of London. When I first arrived in the Dittons, we were policed by the Met, now we come under Surrey police. Whilst I would support some aspects of inclusion, extending the zone system beyond Esher for instance, I fear that moving the whole governance to the GLA may not be the best use of money. On the whole, if it aint broke, don't fix it!

This proposal is brought to you by Spelthorne Business Forum, the people behind the risible renaming of Staines "Staines upon Thames (named after the Roman stanes or stepping stones, later bridging stones, which crossed the Thames at that point, it might more consistently have been  "Staines in Thames").

I doubt very much if it deserves airtime.
