Elmbridge Parks Control Team are undertaking  patrols of Summer Road Park in mid-November at RA Cllr. Tricia Bland's request - this is part of a wider campaign in Elmbridge to highlight the problem of dog fouling, to encourage the few dog walkers who aren't picking up after their dogs to be more considerate. Mums of young children, in particular,  have been complaining about this

A council official will be armed with postcards which encourage people to report dog fouling offences, poo-bag dispensers for dog owners and some balloons to highlight the problem.

Comment: there has been, to my knowledge, only one prosecution for dog fouling in the whole of Elmbridge during the past six years.  A council official who used to have the responsibility for that problem amongst others told me some years ago that it is only a tiny minority of dog owners that let their dogs foul and leave the faeces behind, and they are usually serial offenders in that regard, but the problem is identifying them.  You may be able to help....

As considerate dog owners I think this is a really good idea. We get so angry when we see other owners not picking up or see the evidence, it creates a bit of collective guilty complex for many considerate dog owners i think. I know of one particular local offender. We witnessed 'their' dog pooping on our neighbours drive one night - leaving our neighbour to pick it up the next morning.
However dog pooping is only one of the anti-social issues affecting our green spaces and whilst this absolutely needs highlighting and offenders shamed, the littering and trash left behind in these same spaces by older children needs highlighting also. We frequently collect broken glass (to save our dog's paws from being cut) as well as other rubbish on our walks in the park at Giggs Hill.
