Title: Glad I used Ashley Road
Post by: craigvmax on March 29, 2013, 01:38:55 PM
Got a ticket for parking over 2 bays, as you can see, it was causing quite a problem!

Daft isn't it. I only did it because it was deserted and I'm sick of getting my doors dinked. Won't use it again with that car now.

I wonder if it was the same traffic warden that gave the ticket to a coach dropping off infants at the school.

Utterly ridiculous.

That is absolutely appalling! Please contest this and don't let them get away with it. An utter disgrace to themselves.

I'd be interested to know what the revenue is from it in comparison to the cost of a warden.

That is insane.

Glad you can see the funny side as I would be fuming !

Revenue we all know is minimal - but then they employ wardens regardless who tour the sites.

I doubt the revenue is enough to cover the petrol used for the warden to get to our site forget the cost of the warden!!!

I don't know if its just internet rubbish but I read on a forum somewhere that a lot of wardens get bonuses for issuing tickets. Even if the tickets are then quashed on appeal ...

dust having settled somewhat, despite the ludicrousness (is that a word!?) of it, I bet I still couldnt get off this as I am technically guilty.

Just a thought ... is there a sign saying that you have to park in the marked bays?  Bit of a long shot but signage is often a problem.  Also, it is up to the Council to prove that you were in the wrong so it might be worth asking what evidence they have i.e. photos or written statement from the warden.  Once you know that you can then decide whether you want to press further.

It is good that you have your own photo and that might be useful if you want to go down the apology/won't do it again/didn't think it would be an issue route.

You may end up paying in the end but sometimes it is satisfying to make them work a bit for the money!

It does seem a particularly narky example of officious enforcement!  My sympathies - especially as we want all good citizens to use the car park......

Please can someone tell me when the pedestrian link will be open, as I for one will use?

Ps. It's easy to park in the correct spaces, Craig.  Do they (the council) have CCTV on site?

Z cars, when I need lessons on driving or parking, rest assured. You'll be the last person I ask.

This is stuck in the council's Legal dept as I understand it.  The problem seems to be making an access door in the wall from the car park to the new proposed path.  My understanding of the legal or regulatory niceties is imperfect, but it seems that the Elmbridge (Conservative) administration, or officials (perhaps with a longer term concealed aim of selling the car park or developing part of it?) may be reluctant to agree to an access that might entail some rights in the future that would affect alternative prospects for the car park.

However, at present I gather that we are giving them the benefit of the doubt in the expectation that this is just delay and inertia in Legal Dept and nothing more sinister.  It is clear that the overwhelming public desire is to get the path from the car park through.  It would be extraordinarily undemocratic for the diehards in the council to block this.

I don't know who owns the wall.

PS: edit: I forgot to add that apparently the access from the car park would require an extension of pavement outwards into the car park and a barrier, for health and safety reasons (and stopping kids on scooters charging out into the car park from a blind wall)
