Title: Local restaurants
Post by: Emberman on September 21, 2014, 06:03:30 PM
Any recent (positive) experiences of local eateries (evening and/or Sunday lunch) ?

Swan, reliable pub grub, Red Lion always good, tend to travel a bit further if not going to those or the Rose for a Curry. The Albany is just totally hit and miss and rely on location for customers. When it's good, it's great, when it's not, its crap. The Italian is reasonably good but at a price.

I had a very nice meal at the recently reopened Greyhound on Saturday evening and Mezzet by Hampton Court is always good.

Agree with Craig regarding the others, but the Albany ran out of chances with me.

We liked the Italian the few times we went but it was expensive.

I saw recently they now do a tapas menu and it looks very reasonably priced.

Anyone been since?

I wasn't impressed by the Italian at all; very cramped, not particularly inviting and definitely expensive.  The Swan is a bit hit and miss these days as is The Albany.  The latter is also over priced.  If you like Indian food The Rose is always good.  In my opinion all the restaurants in TD need to up their game.  I rarely eat locally these days.

Hi is that since the revamp to offer tapas on the menu?

Id have to agree with your assesment re Italian. When it was just the Italian we went a couple of times and enjoyed it - but didn't think it reflected good value for money. I was hoping the revamp with the tapas menu meant it was a little better value for money.

Re local eateries we love the red lion and the swan still does one of the best roasts around.

Hampton court has another fabulous Indian restaurant if you fancy a change from the Rose. Its called Cocum and it does South Indian food - so slightly different than the offering at the Rose.

I have to confess, even though its a chain, I quite like the Zizzi as well in Hampton court, and the other local cafés/brunch places along bridge st have upped their game over the years. Expensive some of them but nice food .

Finally a bit further afield (not sure of the defn. of local) - but we like la fiama close to bushey park and there is a great byo place in east Molesy - lafamata (spelling??) that does a small daily special type menu.

Hi Juninho my visit was pre tapas menu so maybe it is better now.

What sort of food is served at the Red Lion these days?  I haven't been there for a while but maybe it's time to re-visit.

Thank you for the tip about Cocum, another to add to the list of places to go.  There are a few reasonable restaurants around Hampton Court.
