Title: TMG site on Weston Green Road (near Milbourne pond on Weston Green)
Post by: Montreux on March 09, 2014, 09:24:59 AM
I was wondering if anyone new the owner of TMG personally and could have a quiet word.

Aside from a portaloo positioned on common land and an unlit skip, there is also the most ridiculously large sign "advertising" the company.  Being in business myself I recognise the value of discrete marketing but please do recognise such silly signs tend to offend more people than it attracts and there business will be lost!

All the information you need is on their website.

5 seconds on google would have given you a name and telephone number to call and discuss rather than publicly posting.  In times like these local businesses need to do all they can to maintain an advertising presence and contrary to what you might think, signs such as these do work well.

What's all this then?  What is the 'TMG site' and why shouldn't a resident draw attention in respectful manner to what is considered a large and unsightly business sign?  I missed it.  There must be more to this than meets the eye.

When I search the web for the THG site I get this: http://www.tmg-uk.org/  or this: http://www.tmg.org.uk/trianon/home.html

Now I have seen the portaloo on the common and the large sign and the unlit skip in the road opposite Weston Green School.  I have found TMG construction at http://www.tmgbuild.co.uk/

Note: edited by Admin to remove postal address by request.  Website substituted.

I don't have a point in particular, but I was mystified as to what this was about and who TMG were and why this should not be referred to publicly.  Now I am demystified.

Of course everyone has the right to question and bring to notice such things, whoever is involved.  It is the same for everybody.

my point wasn't that they shouldn't be referred to publicly, it was. if I had an issue like this and it was simple to speak to the person involved and sort it out, I wouldn't post it on a public forum.

If I may risk stepping in among valued contributors here, the only issue I can see is whether or not a builder, who as a local builder well known in the village is likely to be more rather than less sensitive to local sentiment, is within the regs or not.  If so, some residents may not like it but must lump it.  If not, I'm sure the builder will remedy matters.

1.  Signs are allowable if I recall correctly, but they should be within permitted dimensions.
2.  The portaloo is a Health'n'Safety requirement, I understand, but probably consent is required from the council (who own the common) and for all we know, it may have been obtained.
3.  Does a skip have to bear lights or reflectors when parked or is street lighting held to be adequate?

Montreux - or even TMG - might like to contact a council official or a councillor to clarify these points.

Fwiw I believe the loo has been moved and the sign is within council requirements, I'd remove the address personally, is that really needed on a public forum whether on their website or not

Although I do not fully understand the sensitivities I have edited Flex's post to remove the address, as requested.

Specific issue aside, I think it is a dangerous path if we are to censor what people can/can't post on this forum depending on whether we know/like the person who is the subject matter......................

Two out of three is a good start!

Happy to confirm that the portaloo was removed and the skip is now lit.  The unsightly large sign remains.  Come on Simon do the decent thing!

The sign is within guidelines.
