TDWGRA Councillors' persistence finally gets Thames Water to address the water-pipe leak by TD Station.
You may have wondered why the obvious water leak under the rail bridge at Thames Ditton Station has taken so long to fix. Soon after the leak was seen, RA Councillor Elaine Sesemann, supported by County Councillor, Nick Darby, contacted Thames Water (TW) on 3rd March to press them for prompt action to repair it. This was followed by delays, during which no action was taken by TW - reportedly because they were unable to determine if the leak was from a 4" main or a 36" main (?) Elaine has since submitted a complaint to TW over their unacceptably slow response.
During this time, Nick was dealing with Surrey Highways who needed to issue a permit for TW to undertake the road work necessary to fix the leak. That permit was issued, valid until Friday 17th April, and TW have finally commenced work, as shown, with traffic flow controlled by lights. There is a large pothole in the through route under the bridge, and Nick has urged Highways to prioritise this as 'Urgent', so that it will be made safe within two hours; though this may involve a temporary fix prior to a final subsequent repair.
If you see a road issue that is seemingly being ignored by local authorities, don't just assume no action is being taken by our RA Councillors. However Councillors cannot just snap their fingers to get the work done - it often requires persistence and much discussion with the relevant authorities (council officers or companies) before progress is made. If you want to find out what is happening in such cases, contact our Councillors who will be happy to let you know what is being done. Click here to see their contact details.
