NewsFlash: UNAUTHORISED ENCAMPMENT AT SUMMER ROAD RECREATION GROUND
To the alarm of local residents, a group of travellers drove into the Summer Road Recreation Ground and set up camp on Monday 8th August. As soon as they were alerted, your local RA councillors informed the Council's Gypsy/Travellor Liaison Officer who visited the site soon after and he commenced his assessment required under the legal protocol for dealing with unauthorised gypsy/traveller sites.
Today, Wednesday, EBC has served the travellers with a Notice of Direction to Leave by 10th August under Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. If they do not leave in compliance with this Notice, the Council will seek a removal order from the Magistrates Court.
The Council’s Protocol for the Management of Unauthorised Gypsy and Traveller Encampments was updated in September 2015 and can be downloaded from the website.
Further updates will be posted on the Council’s website www.elmbridge.gov.uk/news/travellers-update/ .
