Am wondering if there is any of reaching the A3 or M25 from Thames Ditton on the day of the cycle race ? 
I need to travel to Stoke D'Abernon, but the usual route will be closed - A307 all day, and the A309 until 11am (too late to leave!)

I haven't looked up all the details but last time this was possible to get onto the a3 if I recall correctly. It may involve moving your car and having to walk depending on where you are in td. I think I did (seems a lifetime ago now! ) but worked out after that I did not need to. Still it helped I believe.

It was a bit of a mare deciphering the road closures but happy to have a look this weekend to work it out exactly! I feel I am well practiced and I actually sent some suggestions on how it's communicated and would be interested to see if they improved it.

It's always worth knowing for us as well just in case and it can be a bit of fun analysis.

I assume you are within the 'triangle' of Portsmouth road, Hampton court way and the river?

Last time you could cross the Hampton Court Way at the roundabout by Ember Lane, go through Molesey and down Molesey road towards Hersham, along Burwood Road and Foxoak Hill across Walton Common to join the A3 at Painshill/Sainsbury's.

Looking at the routes I can't see any reason why this shouldn't be possible again, but they do seem to sometimes close roads (such as the HCW) when they shouldn't need to, at least to cross it.

It really should be easier than this to work out - if we are being inconvenienced then a page that says 'How to leave Thames Ditton by car' should be available, not just lists of places and times that aren't specific enough. There is a link to a separate 'community access' page, which maybe has this info, but it isn't working.

Thanks for the help - we are just off Embercourt Road.  Hmm - the uncertain factor seems to be whether you can cross the Hampton Court Way. Parking the car say in the part of Embercourt Road near Esher Road could be the safest plan.

The first officer on the help desk directed me to a route finder that did not work around the closed roads, then hung up when I continued to ask her for information.   The next officer I spoke to suggested I email jamest@ridelondon.co.uk but he has not replied.  Their perspective appears to be that TD residents simply aren't expected to make any journeys or do anything that day - just stay at home, or watch the race!

Still haven't found any info on whether Hampton Court way will be crossable on Sunday. Does anyone know?
Was going to phone the Helpline but it is now closed till Monday (!) so I have tweeted. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Just crossed over HCW by foot no sign of cars, marshals or cyclists.  Cars being turned back at junction with Weston Green Road but otherwise no obstacle at the moment to walking or driving.  Monsoon rain may explain that ...

All in all it was yet again a wonderful event. Not quite the same crowds on giggs hill as other years but enough to create a lovely atmosphere.

Credit where it's due and I think the people on the ground, at least the ones I spoke to, were really on the ball. They handled a change on short notice for the morning run and were very good at the rolling road closures such that (and I stand to be corrected ) - the impact on road users was minimised.

I didn't watch the amateurs and missed the professionals on their way 'out' as I was not quite up for braving the rain!

Looking forward to this event next year and hopefully we will have cavendish there too !

I think it's a good event.  But I think the route should be varied from year to year to spread the joy more evenly over Surrey.
