Title: Photos of the Home of Compassion
Post by: fl65 on November 28, 2013, 02:39:35 PM
Hi all - my name is Flo, I'm a student hoping to do a local history project about the Home of Compassion. I was wondering if anyone had any good photos of it from inside the grounds they would be willing to let me use. Any photos would be useful - those of the Home in its current state or whilst it was in use... I'm particularly keen on anything that shows the interior and layout. I tried asking Home Care if they would let me have a look around inside, but it seems they aren't permitting residents access any more.

Many thanks in advance,

Flo Laino

N.b.
Any photos I use will be used first mainly for my own academic reference, or if included within the project would be referenced in full copyright, after asking permission.

Hi Flo, have you been through the Mercer Collection at the library yet? There are few photos there.

Also, there is some useful stuff including a few internal photos in the current planning application, particularly the Design, Heritage & Access Statement (http://www3.elmbridge.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Other%20Documents-1808043.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=1808043&location=Volume2&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=1). You should be fine using this as long as you reference it properly.

Hi Ratty,

Yes I've seen the Design and Access statement, and also the Mercer collection - some great historical images in there! I'm hankering after modern day photos of the interior though, just to get an idea of the space and architecture of it on the inside :).

It's a long shot, but back when the squatters were in residence one of the forum member called TDresident had a look around and took some photos. I haven't seen him/her post here for a while but perhaps Admin can put you in touch?

There are also a few more internal photos in the original application by Caring Homes (http://www3.elmbridge.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Design%20&%20Access%20Statement-195248.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=195248&location=DTElmB200809&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=1). Perhaps Scurr & Partners Ltd (http://www.scurr.co.uk/site/scr_home.php?page_id=1) who were the architects back then still have the original images on file?

Well remembered, Ratty.  Trish Gant from Kingston took some and gave permission.  They are still here:  http://residents-association.com/news/HOC_Nov2010/index.html

Trish Gant's website is here if you wish to contact her, Flo - they are her copyright.  http://www.trishgant.com/
