Title: Thames Ditton Xmas Fair - 2013 Post by: Juninho on December 02, 2013, 10:14:07 AM Another lovely, well organised christmas fair with what was one of the best turnouts I have seen.
Yes this did mean that at times it took a while to get through people but to me that added to the fun and the atmosphere. Events like these remind me that in spite of all the slow / delayed trains, parking woes, potholes, etc etc that we really really do live in a fantastic little village and I for one am a very proud Thames Ditton ner!! If I have one teeny criticism to bear in mind for next year, it maybe would be better if the larger 'displays' (such as the dancing etc) weren't located opposite other stalls, as there was quite a gridlock at these places. Busy atmosphere - great! Can't move for 10 mins - not so great. (Though it was amusing seeing a man with three cups of mulled cider trying to squeeze along with a bike coming one way and a pram the other!!) Title: Re: Thames Ditton Xmas Fair - 2013 Post by: Ratty on December 03, 2013, 01:35:37 PM It's always nice and well organised, but for me it felt more special when it was held closer to Christmas and during the week. I think this is because it felt more Christmasy as it was already dark and the lights were all on. Also being a bit later people would get back from work and be more up for a mulled wine or two and some bonhomie. I understand the attraction of making an event of turning the lights on, but the hour and a half lead up was too long.
Title: Re: Thames Ditton Xmas Fair - 2013 Post by: Admin on December 03, 2013, 04:44:18 PM Well, it's primarily for the retailers and they do like to get the shopping season started,
The date and time is always a compromise and there are several things to recommend the Sunday afternoon choice, not least that it suits small children better than a night-time one. A colourful and enjoyable occasion, yet again! Many thanks to all the people who organised the event.
