1hr parking is not bad idea for a coffee etc. however Watts Road would be a good area for business permit parking as its the village office/shop workers who block the high street themselves. This would leave Watts Road in a more driveable shape in the evenings and at the weekend.

How about the commuter parking? This is the issue that needs to be addressed especially if hampton court station will be shut for refurb/new hotel.

I gather that some confusion has arisen especially regarding the two proposals in central TD.  Please note that the proposal regarding Riversdale Road is separate from that regarding the High Street and your feedback comments to Surrey should be specific to each separate proposal.

To those who have expressed concern at the loss of parking, it is pointed out that there is ample parking in Ashley Road car park where residents may get annual permits very cheaply.  Despite repeated calls to use it or lose it, that car park has been persistently under-used while the High Street has been clogged by all-day parkers, especially for short term shoppers during the working week.  The proposal for the High Street would retain unrestricted parking outside shopping hours.

Having attended the RA meeting, the impetus given for the Riversdale Road proposal was unconvincing and Ashley Road car park is not really a viable alternative.

Some short-term parking on the High Street would be great. But, allocating 9+ spaces seems excessive.

The other day I saw a woman park half way along Watts road and then running down the High Street to get to the dance studio beside the car park on time. 

I agree with the short-term parking but would suggest 10.30 - 6pm

The gym users should be using the carpark as they have the alley-way , I really think the workers of the shops have a nerve themselves as they consistently park on the high street themselves. Its not for them to tell residents where to park in Ashley Road.

9 spaces is okay - I wonder if we get a parking warden aswell becuase the one thing that really annoys me is people parking on the Peanut!

The Riversdale Road proposal is I think stimulated by vehicles being parked on the verge making a mess of them.  I am against the loss of parking for that sort of reason.  The logical approach is to defend the verge (or slightly widen the road, as was the case in Basingfield Road).  If there is no budget for that at present then the problem should in my view be deferred until money can be found.

The very cheap residents' annual permits make Ashley Road a viable alternative for all-day (and all night) parkers who otherwise leave their cars permanently on the central roads.  I support the proposal for a small number of free, unmetered shopper parking places during shopping hours.  Again, "solutions" relying on self-restraint by other parkers have long been tried and have not worked.  If you give some priority to keeping the kind of shops & services in the High St  that actually attract passing trade, then a few bays for them make sense.  Indeed, provision of about 8 such places in two bays was part of what came out of the consultation seven or eight years ago.  SCC then scuppered that by insisting on parking meters, with all the baggage that brings, which the High St and residents found unacceptable by a large majority of respondents.

Agree ref Riversdale Road, surely (at the end near Summer Road)  it would be better to have a verge you can park on rather than the messy muddy grass currently there?

I very much hope that everyone supports the proposals for 1 hour parking in the village. It might not be a perfect solution for everyone but all other options have been explored and a village with empty shops would be a pretty soulless place.  

2 cars broken into in Ashley Road car park last night, smashed windows, shame.

 

Over the past ten years in which I've been following local crime stats I think there have been rather more instances of damage to cars parked on the streets than to cars parked in the car park - though how that works out as a percentage I don't know.

I've had my car keyed twice on the high street.

Just to clarify: I completely agree regarding Ashley Road car park and the central roads. It is amazing the distances people will go to to save 20p while forking out for their coffees. Roadrunner is right though. All the retailers need to show willing and park in it themselves.

However, it's not a viable alternative for most parkers on Riversdale Road. 

There seems to be signs of life in the Crown at last which means locals may soon have to stop parking on its forecourt putting even more pressure on parking, not to mention the customers it would hopefully draw in.

I still feel 9+ short-term spaces on the High Street is too many. If they are all approved I am willing to bet that it will only be a matter of time before people start parking around the corner on St Leonard's Road (where the traffic warden parks!)

Im not anti-bikes but what is the law about riding on the pavements?  I was nearly mown down twice this morning

As craig or ratty pointed out, the paths arent wide enough already.....................its good that they removed the lamposts, hopefully the cyclistis want need to go on the path as they will see a clear road ahead with fewer parked cars.  Im okay with the shop parking but about providing for cyclists!
