I would think parking could be a problem with a Costa at that end of the village, especially in view of the longer dwell time than for shopping ? And perhaps a disable bay near Boots would help those collecting prescriptions ?

Interesting option - I would not have thought its the best location really . Its further from a lot of the businesses (other than high st ones) and other lunch places.
AS others have said - its easy for us to say we'd prefer something else but has to be financially viable. I don't think it would take too much business away from the existing options either so rather than an empty store a costa would be a good option.
That said - I think our village would massively benefit from a nice tea house with cakes! I could pretend i am thinking of all the business it could drum up as the caring home ramps up but the truth would be I like cakes...!
Coffee and pastry are nice too but we seem to have lost tea houses! Hampton Court had a nice one and its now more of a diner ... so I guess the business model is just not there!

Of course, many people are keen to say what they don't want in the high street but who is prepared to take the financial risk and obligation of opening something different?

I would rather that TD high street does not turn into another boring collection of chains.

I have a different view. It will increase footfall to the high street and no doubt be open longer hours then the existing cafe's - which are either at capacity at key times of the day or offer a very different proposition. It will breath life into an otherwise quiet part of the high street - and won't rely on the risky and hard to secure capital (for independent retailers) to open up a business. Unfortunately rents will rise whether there is a 'brand' on the high street or not - as is currently the case. Costa also pay their taxes!

Is there any truth to rumours that Costa Coffee is opening an outlet where Mehra's was?
