Thames Ditton High Street’s 2016 Christmas Fair – a spectacular success!
This year’s Christmas Fair in the High Street on Sunday 4th December was the most spectacular ever, with the highest numbers of locals and visitors attending. A major highlight was this year’s Christmas grotto making a magical pop-up appearance at the Ironing Board. Here children found Santa surrounded by his elves and a sack of gifts for the children. Special guests included Star Wars Jedi Masters wielding their light sabres, and also local children, and pets, turning up in fancy dress, with prizes awarded for the most imaginative costumes.
A major highlight was the switching on of the lime tree lights. This year, Thames Ditton resident, Toby Gold, who won a silver medal in the T33 100 metres sprint in the 2016 Paralympics, flicked the switch alongside the Mayor of Elmbridge, Tannia Shipley (RA Councillor for Hinchley Wood & Weston Green), setting in motion the lighting up of our High Street for the entire festive season.
As locals and visitors have come to expect, our fantastic independent shops and businesses pulled out all the stops for festive Fair offerings, and there was non-stop entertainment and activities for all the family. Also, there was an abundance of mulled wine, mince pies and winter-warming food, courtesy of our fantastic cafes, pubs and restaurants, plus special festive stalls with every treat and delicacy imaginable.
