The Boundary Commission (BC) has now published its final report on the new ward and boundary configuration for Elmbridge. The outcome for Thames Ditton and Weston Green is as follows.
Thames Ditton
The area east of Portsmouth Road (A307), previously recommended for reassignment to Long Ditton ward, will now stay within Thames Ditton ward due to the strong representation made in that regard. The area west of Hampton Court Way (A309), north of Embercourt Road to, and just beyond the Rivers Mole and Ember (currently within Molesey East ward) will be reassigned to Thames Ditton ward as specified in the BC's earlier recommendation.
Weston Green
Weston Green ward will now be combined with a slightly reduced Hinchley Wood ward to form a new Hinchley Wood & Weston Green ward, as in the BC's earlier recommendation. The proposed amendment, supported by the TD & WG Residents' Association, to include the additional area of Lower Green in the new ward, was not accepted.
For the whole of Elmbridge, the net result is a reduction in wards from 22 to 16, and a reduction in Councillors from 60 to 48. All the new wards will have three Councillors each.
The proposed new arrangements must now be implemented by Parliament. A draft Order – the legal document which brings into force the recommendations – will be laid in Parliament in the coming months. The draft Order provides for the new electoral arrangements to come into force at the council elections in 2016.
