Rubbish bins

UPDATE:  Elmbridge Borough Council now advise that the strikes detailed below have  been cancelled, and that normal collections will continue on those days.

Elmbridge Borough Council have advised of the following disruption of our waste collection service:

We have been informed of strike action by Amey employees working on the waste collection service in Elmbridge. Amey is the contractor for Joint Waste Solutions (JWS) which manages waste collection for several borough councils in Surrey. The strikes will be on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 5 November
  • Wednesday 6 November
  • Tuesday 19 November
  • Wednesday 20 November

The collection areas on these days are generally Molesey, The Dittons and Claygate.

Not all Amey employees working in Elmbridge are part of the GMB union who have voted to strike, and therefore we do expect to have a waste collection service on the above dates, albeit a very limited one.

We are working with JWS to mitigate any impact. We are also writing to all residents who normally have waste collection on the strike days, asking them to leave their bins out for collection on the normal day, and they will be collected as soon as possible. The letter will arrive 2-4 November. The information in that letter is also on the JWS website:

https://www.jointwastesolutions.org/bin-collections-during-planned-strike-action/

Negotiations with the GMB Union will continue to try to avoid strike action, but we are also making preparations to limit the impact on our residents should a strike happen.

In addition to the letter to residents, we will update residents through our website and social media.
