Title: High Street Signage Post by: Portmeirion on March 10, 2013, 04:30:46 PM How can we get some road signage in the village, for the follow;
1. 20 mph coming into village 2. Signs for Ashley road car park 3. Is it also possible to get to restrictions lorries from entering high street? Title: Re: High Street Signage Post by: craigvmax on March 10, 2013, 05:30:23 PM How would the shops get their deliveries though Zc?
Title: Re: High Street Signage Post by: Keith on March 10, 2013, 06:47:14 PM There are 20mph signs. There is I believe some regulatory nonsense about the exact kind of 20mph zone it is, which apparently impacts on exactly what kind of signs there have to be. Peter Hickman looked into it a few years back, and we couldn't get past the officials. SCC's traffic engineers will know, or commuterparker in this forum.
There is/was a lorry ban over 3 tons, the result of a campaign here long ago, but hard to enforce, and one problem is that satnavs direct lorries through the rat runs between Portsmouth Rd and Hampton Court Way, or so I'm told. Car park signs were improved. A balance has to be struck between visibility and looks in the conservation area. I wish the retailers would display signs so that their customers are aware there is a car park. But the main problem is that all day parkers use the High St not the car park - and they know perfectly well where the car park is. Whether it's speed zones or car parks or dog poo or cycling on the pavements or camping at Albany Reach, there's a general tendency to say "let's put up a sign / another sign / a bigger sign" as the answer to all problems but I am sceptical that more or bigger signs than the ones we presently have will change people's behaviour. Also, going around with the camera, the two major visual horrors in nearly every view through the finder are signs and parked cars! Title: Re: High Street Signage Post by: rudi on March 10, 2013, 08:57:35 PM We need enforced 'limited waiting' spaces in the High Street to encourage shoppers and deter all day parkers and, dare i say it, some retailers taking up spaces that should be for shoppers convenience not theirs.
Title: Re: High Street Signage Post by: BlueSky on March 10, 2013, 09:27:48 PM Craig - how about only permitting off-loading vans in the high street?
Im okay with limited waiting however how about high street, they should be allocated their own spots too? Title: Re: High Street Signage Post by: craigvmax on March 11, 2013, 11:38:03 AM I'm not really in TD in the week enough to see how the lorries affect things tbh
