More libraries to open
Surrey County Council have advised the following :-
From 3rd August, a further 12 libraries will start offering a click and collect door service allowing customers to return their items and collect Ready Reads and reserved books. These libraries are Ash, Banstead, Bookham, Caterham Hill, Chertsey, Dittons, Ewell, Hersham, Knaphill, Leatherhead, Reigate, and Walton. However, the public will not be allowed into the buildings for the time being. The Dittons click and collect service runs Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-2pm.
In addition, from July 29, the use of computers will restart at the 13 libraries which have already reopened (Camberley, Dorking, Egham, Epsom, Farnham, Godalming, Guildford, Horley, Oxted, Redhill, Staines, Weybridge, and Woking). There will be a reduced number of PCs available to ensure social distancing measures, and time spent on a PC will be limited to 1 hour instead of the usual 2. Sessions will need to be booked either in advance or on the day, and equipment will be cleaned between users.
The county’s libraries closed on 20 March due to the coronavirus lockdown. As the libraries start to reopen, the priority is staff and customer safety, which means the libraries have to operate in a different way with a reduced service, limited capacity in buildings, additional cleaning measures and guidelines in place for social distancing.
The library service is working hard to increase library opening hours but these will be built back up over time due to the additional capacity needed to manage the new required measures.
