PACKED HALL AT SAVE MOLESEY HOSPITAL MEETING

On a cold wet night on Tuesday 8th March about 200 concerned people, including many standing, crowded into the hall at Chandlers Field School, West Molesey to support Molesey Hospital, which has been in Molesey for over 100 years. The meeting was called jointly by Molesey Residents’ Association and Thames Ditton & Weston Green Residents’ Association.

Everyone present made it very clear to the representatives of the Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group  that they would fight to keep the hospital open. The alternative of closing the hospital and moving the facilities to Cobham was not acceptable as there is no public transport from Molesey to Cobham and the £15 taxi fare each way was beyond the means of many in an increasingly elderly catchment area.  It was made quite clear that local residents will not give up their local hospital without a fight. Speaker after speaker praised the wonderful service they had been given. The hospital did its job well in spite of having no maintenance for a great many years. The Friends of the hospital had raised enough money for a new x-ray machine but were unable to have it installed as staff to work it were not available.
