Elmbridge Borough Election, 5th May 2016:
Profiles - Thames Ditton Ward
Tricia W. Bland
A councillor since 2014, Tricia has campaigned actively on many local issues, including the preservation of our Community Centre for the elderly and overturning proposals to put parking meters in the High Street. She has fought successfully to enhance the vitality of Thames Ditton's commercial centre, setting up the High Street Retailers' Association and promoting local use with the 'Keep the Heart in our High Street' and 'Think Local, Shop Local' campaigns. Tricia set up, and still organises, the annual Christmas lights, played a key role in developing our Christmas Fair, and is one of the organisers of the successful Farmers’ Market.
On the East Area Planning Committee she supports residents' opposition to overdevelopment, mindful to protect our heritage buildings and environment.

Ruth Lyon
Ruth Lyon has been a councillor since 1973 and is a past mayor. She is perhaps best known for her work leading the development of the Vera Fletcher Hall, and for over 25 years, running the splendid theatre, music and children’s shows at the hall. She is a past Governor and Chairman of the Infants and Junior schools, member and past Chairman of the Friends of Thames Ditton Hospital, and as councillor, worked to provide new premises for Ajax Sea Scouts and the Dittons Skiff and Punting Club when they were both under threat of closure.
Ruth has always fought to preserve our Green Belt, open spaces and playing fields from development. She is recognised by all groups as an extremely effective and indefatigable councillor.

Karen Randolph
Karen has been a councillor since 2007, with a special interest in planning and health. As Vice Chair of the East Area Planning Committee and serving on the main Planning Committee, she deals with both local and strategic issues, and is keen to protect our local environment, especially open spaces, from inappropriate development. She opposed over-development in Taggs Boatyard, and her committee refused the Angel Road storage unit. On health, Karen is a co-opted member of Surrey County Council’s Health Scrutiny Committee which oversees the provision of health services.
Karen fights hard to protect our community hospitals and local health services - she is Chair of the Friends of Thames Ditton Hospital at Emberbrook and is a strong supporter of Molesey Community Hospital.
